Thailand's extensive domestic aviation network makes it easy to reach destinations across the country, and one of the lesser-known routes connects Bangkok with the coastal province of Chumphon in southern Thailand. On this journey, I flew with AirAsia aboard an Airbus A320 from Bangkok Don Mueang International Airport to Chumphon Airport, experiencing everything from airport lounge access to a smooth regional arrival.
The trip began at Don Mueang International Airport, Bangkok's primary hub for low-cost carriers and one of the busiest domestic airports in Southeast Asia. Despite its age compared with Bangkok's newer Suvarnabhumi Airport, Don Mueang remains an efficient gateway for domestic travel. Unlike many larger airports, passengers disembarked using mobile stairs directly onto the apron, offering an excellent opportunity to appreciate the aircraft up close before entering the terminal. The relaxed atmosphere immediately highlighted the difference between Bangkok's busy aviation hubs and the quieter pace of provincial Thailand.
